Recent articles in the Newport Daily News and Newport Now, the online paper, refer to the difference in a Beach Advisory and a Beach Closing.

Apparently it has been Department of Health policy for many years to issue beach advisories routinely after 1/2 inch of rain and beach closings only if there is a recent history of persistent high readings.
