Sakonnet River Bridge

Source: RIDOT

NEWPORT -- The opening date for the new Sakonnet River Bridge has been delayed after crews discovered what are being called "hairline fractures" in the span's concrete deck.

The Providence Journal reportes this morning that the $164 million bridge likely won't open until the end of the month.

The northbound lanes had been set to open in the coming days.

The cracks, which are attributed to shrinkage that occurred during the drying process, and will not affect the bridge's structural integrity.

Crews are expected to patch the cracks with an epoxy fill before the final deck layer is paved.

tolls

these tolls are far from a done deal, that just being used to lol you to sleep, there are many ways to stop this stupid not thougt out deal, first vote out the folks who did it, next, ! thing that could be done is Dump the bridge crew, raise every car registation in Ri by $2.00 roll the bridge workers into DOT and make them deal with the bidding for painting the bridge, guess what NO TOLLS for anyone otherwise leave them right where they are, throwing them on rt 24 NOT ON THE BRIDGE, will strangle Newport county economy, never mind the woklforce lost and making ever resident in the county buy a transponder to leave the island, sign a peition STOP THE TOLLS

THEY ARE 100% GOING IN

I know a guy whose kid works for the company that programs EZPass -
they were in town recently to do the fast lane on the Jamestown Bridge and were looking at specs/dimensions for the Sakonnet. It is a done deal with the company.

Tolls

Let's be honest, this is really a TAX by the "Upstate" politicians on "Downstate" and "Out of State" bridge users.

"Why did they do it?" is simple also. Because they could.

Newport County legislators haven't been active enough. In any other state would the President of the Senate's constituents be unfairly targeted with a TAX like this? Of course not.

Newport County legislators should have been rasing Holy He_ _ since a toll was first proposed. Including introducing legislation requiring the Bridge & Turnpike Authority to install tolls on every Interstate and non-Interstate bridge in the State. The I-95 bridges in Providence/East Providence and the I-95 bridge in Pawtucket: heck, even the Van Zandt Ave. bridge in Newport.

So what if the Federal Highway Administration has to okay the Interstates. The point would be to raise a stink and put attention on the 'targeted' TAX on Newport County travelers.

Time for a TAX Revolt, Newport County. The toll is revolting; you've been 'had' by the Upstaters again. Your Representative and Senators let you down.

The Mt. Hope Bridge toll would be next, but there'll be a delay, because the Upstaters will use I-195 to Rte. 138 and the Mt. Hope Bridge to avoid the Sakonnnet tolls when they come to the Island. Look for major improvements on Rte. 138 to be passed by the General Assembly as they use it more.

tolls

If tolls are allowed to go forth on rt 24 every single tax payer in Newport county will get a hit, first by just paying the tolls are buying a transponder, second folks from Ma that work in Newport will be paying $8.00 bucks a day to come and go to work, out of ataters and ri folks without a transponder will also be paying $8.00 dollars just to get to newport county, anyone who thinks or says this won't hurt everyone on the ialand is in deinal, the cost of just about everything coming on and going off the island will rise Everything and the money spent on tolls is money not spent in our county it will make folks less likely to come and make them come less offen, , think about this Sign the petition Stop the tolls
