Skipper Ken Read and crew crossed the Miami finish line at 1414 local time on Wednesday, taking the sixth leg of the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race over CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand.
The win is the second in a row for Read's Puma Ocean Racing Team, earning them 30 points in the standings and vaulting them into serious contention for an overall podium spot. “This is unbelievable,’’ Read is quoted by organizers as saying just minutes after crossing the line. “It's great to be back in the United States, actually we've been to Miami before in this boat, so this marks our complete circumnavigation.
Up next for the boys on Mar Mostro is a series of in-port races, before setting sail for Lisbon on May 20.
