NEWPORT -- The Newport Yachting Center has announced that multiple Grammy award winner, Lyle Lovett, will be returning to the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series stage on Friday, Aug. 3.
Tickets to the concert are $51 for standard seating and $71 for preferred seating and will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. this Friday, April 27 online at www.newportwaterfrontevents.com or by calling the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600.
Lovett is the sixth headliner for the popular concert series.
“Lyle last graced our stage in 2004 to a near sell-out crowd and it’s taken eight years for his routing schedule and our open dates to match up again,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center. “We are thrilled to bring his version of country - with a little folk, blues, jazz and gospel mixed in - to the waterfront in downtown Newport.”
One of the most distinctive and original singer-songwriters to emerge during the 1980s, Texas-born Lyle Lovett was originally labeled a country singer. However, the tag has never completely fit as he has received critical acclaim for his incisive, witty lyrical detail with an eclectic array of music, ranging from country and folk to big band and traditional pop. The winner of four Grammy Awards, including “Best Country Album” in 1996 for The Road to Ensenada, Lovett has had six of his fourteen albums go “Gold” and sold more than four million records. His album, It’s Not Big It’s Large, was released in 2007 where it debuted and peaked at #2 on the Top County Albums chart.
The rest of the 2012 Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series line-up is as follows:
- Fri., June 29, Ziggy Marley – Wild & Free Tour ($42/$62)
- Fri., July 6, Badfish, A Tribute to Sublime ($18/$38)
