NEWPORT -- Ready the champagne. Newport-based J-Boats is preparing to celebrate the completion of their first new J/70s, a class of eagerly awaited trailerable keelboats which are scheduled to make their debut at the New York Yacht Club's Invitational Cup qualifiers in September.
According to a post on the official J Boat blog, the first hulls are just starting to roll down the production line in Bristol.
"The hulls, decks and molds are simply breath-taking-- a synthesis of handmade craftsmanship and the most modern 5-axis CNC machines to produce perfectly symmetrical boats with perfectly fair lines," the company proclaims. "It's exciting to see the new "baby J" unfold in front of our eyes- the boats look sweet! Everyone is waiting with breathless anticipation to go sailing the 'twin speedsters' in March- get ready for some 'mano-a-mano' combat to see who can go higher and faster and plane the fastest at lowest TWA!"
J/70 fleet discussions are underway in nearly every major sailing region in America and Europe.
