NASCAR Cup

How about the ugly branding on the boats- remind anyone else of NASCAR? Before Dennis Connor lost the cup the boats were classic and beautiful- these are travesties!

The racing hasn't started yet!

Considering the racing hasn't started yet, how can one deem this event a "dud"??? The racing starts TOMORROW.
The opening weekend (last weekend) of Fort Adams had twice the amount of public attendance than expected. I wouldn't call that a "dud"!
Tickets can be ordered online. There are two ticket booths at Fort Adams - one across from the water taxi dock and one at the end of the parking lot. The fort has been free so far, no tickets necessary. Tickets will be needed starting tomorrow through Sunday. This is a green event, meaning the least amount of paper involved the better. However, i'm sure there will be programs available, again, when the event actually starts - tomorrow. Until then, the website provides all the details one needs to know. You can download and/or print the official guide from the site:
http://www.americascup.com/en/Latest/Blog/2012/6/Newport-Program-now-available/
The website plus the guide has tons of info!
Geez people, relax and enjoy this awesome opportunity and hold off on all the negative stuff -at least until the event gets underway!

ITS A DUD

CONTRARY TO ALL THE HYPE, SO FAR THE ACWS HAS EFFECTIVELY SUCKED MOST OF THE LIFE OUT OF THE TOWN. THE STREETS ARE DEAD , THE SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS ARE NOT BUSY AT ALL. PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A SURPRISE TO ANYONE AS IT WAS BROUGHT TO US BY THE EDC. THOSE SAME PEOPLE THAT GAVE US THE 38 STUDIOS DEAL AND LETS NOT FORGET THE SAME INDIVIDUAL WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE ARMORY DEBACLE. STRIKE 3.SO MUCH FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. IF THE BOATS WERE ON THE WATERFRONT THE TOWN WOULD BE MUCH BUSIER INSTEAD OF ISOLATING EVERYONE OUT AT FORT ADAMS. THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR HURTING THE LOCAL BUSINESSES! HOWEVER, IT IS AN ELECTION YEAR...

Information accuracy

Some of these details here have not been printed up in other media sources, some other details aren't shown here. There was no Information Booth down at the Fort yesterday. No place other than the Museum of Yachting looked even the slightest bit official for approaching, and unfortunately they only knew what they had read in the papers. There was not even the chance to buy tickets anywhere. Plus no program literature. Nothing. I know there is such paperwork - Sailing Newport kindly gave me a leaflet but they are already so busy that it's not up to them to help the public who wander along to see what's happening. (It's not surprising therefore that the information which is out there varies from source to source.) Seems logical that an Information Booth down there at Fort Adams should have been a bright business move from the moment the boats began to arrive.

ACup

The TV advertising runs non stop. NBC aired 2 specials on the event yesterday. NBC is covering the finals live. It has been on the front page of the NDN for 6 straight days. The NDN had a 40 page insert last week. Social media websites have had fantastic coverage. They had a gala kick off party 2 weeks ago. They had a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday. There is a party this Wed night for the opening. And they had 4500 people show up yesterday which is 3x what they had predicted. This is hardly "no hoopla".

NO BANNERS

Funny, no Banners, no huge signs, no hoopla over Americas Cup, sad really, you think they would have a WELCOME AMERICAS CUP 2012 BANNER SOMEWHERE COMING into Newport, nothing, its really sad, but they do have construction all over upper Thames, really smart stuff doing it in the busiest summer in decades here. This town needs an enema
