The community-interest group Alliance for a Livable Newport wants to hear from you on a number of issues facing the city by conducting monthly online surveys. Nearly 100 people responded to the group’s first survey in December, and a new batch of three questions has been issued for January:
- Safety in the schools is a hot issue in the aftermath of continuing gun violence in public places. What plans would you support to insure the safety in public schools and other public places? Would you be interested in attending a public forum about “safety in public schools?” If yes, who should be on the panel?
- What percent of Newport’s property taxes do you think goes to public safety? Would you like to know how funds for public safety are allocated?
- If the legislature prevents tolling on the Sakonnet Bridge, how should funds be generated to maintain all the bridges leading to Newport? Increase the toll on the Pell Bridge? Raise the Gas tax? Or other?
The online survey can be accessed at newportalliance.org or through the organization’s facebook page.
If you have a question that you would like to see asked on an upcoming survey, you may submit ideas to info@newportalliance.org. Ideas should address issues of broad interest to the city of Newport.
