NEWPORT, R.I. — The Chanler at Cliff Walk has made a commitment to show their support for the Gulf Coast clean-up by donating $5 from each Lobster BLT sold at their Spiced Pear restaurant throughout the summer. The proceeds will go to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Restoration Fund officiated by the National Wildlife Federation.

Dine on locally caught lobster and aid Gulf clean-up too.

Christine Sullivan, General Manager of The Chanler, derived the idea thinking what affect it would have had if it occurred in The Chanler’s own backyard. “It’s unfathomable,” said Sullivan. “As a coastal property, we understand the importance of protecting all of our resources – the food we eat, the wildlife we watch, the beaches we visit and the ocean we swim in. The effects of the Gulf Coast Oil Spill are far reaching, and we are only beginning to understand the full extent of the damage to our oceans, shorelines, wildlife and to our fishing and tourism industries. This is a man- made disaster and we need to come together and fix it.”

Along with Sullivan, The Chanler’s ownership, Executive Chef, Thomas Duffy, and their entire team empathize with the devastating affect of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. As a Newport business, The Chanler can only imagine the devastation if it would have occurred near Rhode Island, the “Ocean State” and its seaside communities.

National Wildlife Federation, America’s largest conservation organization, has organized the NWF Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund. The money donated to this fund will go toward supporting NWF’s immediate response and longer term on-the-ground work to safeguard the wildlife and coastlines affected by this tragedy.

The Chanler plans to extend this special donation offer through the end of September. For more information about The Chanler’s campaign of call to action or to join in their efforts visit www.TheChanler.com or call 401.847.1300.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Normally, there’s not much reason to celebrate traffic detours and jackhammer-induced headaches, but leave it to the folks down at Cafe Zelda to find a way of turning a tough spot into a hotspot.

NEWPORT, R.I. – With so many Americans exercising a tighter grip on their wallets these days, it’s no surprise if you’ve found yourself going out to dinner less frequently than in the past. But this is an cause we couldn’t pass up.

On Friday, April 29, two local restaurants will be inviting patrons to enjoy good food for a good cause. Both Castle Hill Inn and Resort and Salas Restaurant have signed up for this year’s Dine Out for Life, a special evening of food and fun for AIDS Project Rhode Island (APRI). The concept is simple; participating restaurants agree to donate 25 percent of your food bill to APRI, and you get to enjoy one of the most satisfying meals you’ll ever eat!

Devoted Newporters in the know have long sworn by Pineapples on the Bay as one of the city’s best kept summer time secrets. But did you know that the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island, which plays host to Pineapples, has a few more tricks up its sleeve? One of them is The Windward Restaurant, which not only features great food, but panoramic water views and even a large outdoor dining area where guests can enjoy the sophisticated pairings of Chef Stephanie Pires.

We stopped by recently, enticed by a strong reputation the restaurant has been building among a local clientele, and curious to see the results of a recently completed multi-million-dollar renovation.

And if the above video isn’t enough, keep in mind that The Windward boasts ample parking  – something you’d be hard pressed to find during those busy summer days.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Every once in a while, even the most devout islander will bring themselves to venture across the bridge and into the big city. Some do it every day. Others, only once in a blue moon.

If the buzz surrounding this weekend’s inaugural Winter Chili Festival at the Rhode Island Convention Center is to be believed, then this Saturday, Feb. 27 may just be such an occasion.

The Mudville Pub, with its one-of-a-kind location next to Cardine's Field, is getting ready to re-open.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Could it be? After a year-long absence, the venerable Mudville Pub is re-opening.

The popular West Marlborough Street haunt had been undergoing extensive renovations after sustaining significant water damage as a result of a broken pipe, what seems to have been many many moons ago.

The inside of the newly renovated Mudville looks much as it did before.

The inside of the newly renovated Mudville looks much as it did before.

But now, there’s reason for hope in Mudville. The majority of the construction to the space is complete, the tables and chairs have returned, and the bar has never looked so good. And while an official opening isn’t set until early next week (Monday or Tuesday was the word yesterday afternoon), you can still swing by and do a little Christmas shopping at the popular brew house; gift certificates are currently being sold – perfect for a Secret Santa gift or stocking stuffer.

Stay tuned for official word on an opening date and operating hours.
