A Senate Committee voted Wednesday to hold for further study a bill that would allow voters to decide whether to allow table games at Newport Grand.
The Providence Journal is reporting that the Senate Committee on Special Legislation expressed concern over whether a study commissioned by Gov. Chafee meets a requirement in the bill that the state "conduct an extensive analysis and evaluation of competitive casino gambling operations."
According to the report, committee members were generally supportive of the bill and are expected to revisit it later this session.
