Underwood students (Left to Right) Paulo Ricardo Barbosa, Amelia Prendergast, and Parker Brown
Students at Underwood Elementary School reached deep into their pockets, searched the couch cushions, and raised $2027.62 in spare change from family and friends during the 18th annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser.
The Rhode Island Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society sponsored a national coin drive to raise funds for blood cancer research and patient services.
For three weeks, students brought in their collected change, with the top fundraising classroom of each school receiving a special lunch courtesy of Domino’s Pizza.
Last year, 194 Rhode Island schools raised over $299,000 – with 76 percent of all funds raised going towards life-saving blood cancer research and patient aid.
You can still make a donation to Pennies for Patients through the Underwood School by contacting Lori Russell at 846-9590.
