On March 29, the Rhode Island SkillsUSA Awards Ceremony was held at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston. SkillsUSA is a national student organization that works to maintain American productivity, quality, and competitiveness.

The following medals were presented to students from the Newport Area Career and Technical Center:

Students from Monica Awde’s Academy of Information Technology class swept the Technical Computer Applications Contest, an NACTC first.

Heaney and Wyatt will be traveling to Kansas City, Mo. in June to compete in the SkillsUSA National Contest. They will be competing against the top 2 percent of all technical students in the nation, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
