Where is the investigation by the staff? Howington is misleading them by remaining silent on this issue.

RE: Another Local
Dear Mrs. Another Local,
The poll is unreliable: I voted once in each category to see for myself if it was able to be manipulated. It could easily be you voting over and over. I am not impressed.
If you read my one of my last posts in the article upon which this poll is based you would not so errantly accuse me of being negative, when in fact I suggested perhaps further study was needed and maybe the people around the Lower Thames area had a point. In being so quick to accuse me of ignorance, you have demonstrated your own.
Good day.
Doesn't matter. You will complain anyway.

I originally didn't care...
...because in peak season, it's absolute pandemonium down there anyway, so what's another 10 decibels? Come to find out, an increase of 10 decibels is perceived by the human ear as roughly 100% louder--they are requesting permission to double the volume. Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding the science here, but even as a frequent patron of mid-Thames watering holes, I don't want the music twice as loud. You already have to scream to be heard. If I were a man of God, I would pray for the eardrums of those who live in the Waites Wharf area, because the 1:15AM Mass Exodus is going to be doubly enraging when the boys and girls are shouting twice as loud because they all have Tinnitus.

WOW....84% saying NO? That should calm you down Mr. Sullivan! The "local residents" have spoken and your negative, even ignorant views are not being heard by anyone.

HYPOCRISY & FOOLISHNESS
SO... it's perfectly fair for summer residents to complain about the noise, but the if the alleged noisemakers are from New York and only live here 5 months of the year, then it's not okay? And your solution is to build a museum or a hotel and you think that would be somehow better? As if a hotel would not want to build a bar/restaurant overlooking the water, with maybe a porch and then, of course, live music - like every other hotel on the harbor? Good call on that one.
A museum is an interesting idea. I wonder why no one in the history of Newport ever thought of putting a museum on the harbor? I think they should have a museum of all the places that closed because they couldn't make a go of it. And we could get the people who made the fancy 1st Beach sign to name it: "Welcome To The City Of Newport's Thames Street's Museum Of Places That Time Forgot" They could have pictures of Rosie's and Ike's and B&H Variety and The Avenue Salon and Cherry & Webb & East Side Almacs and Finast and Star Market and Zayre and Big G and JCPenny and Hoffman's Steak House and JT O'Connell and One Plus One and The Black Rail and Doo-Wop Records and The Spindrift and Courtney's and Sacucci Lincoln-Mercury and Saucy Silvia could be the audio narrator... and none of you would go because you'd complain that it costs too much and there's no parking.
At least it will be quiet (which is what happens in a ghost town).

Take Notice
There you go City Council! The votes are saying it all!
Keep Waites Wharf from trying yet again to get their way with you and start listening to the locals who also pay taxes to this city and have been around a lot longer than the Abruzses from New York. They are here 5 months out of the year just long enough to make the locals miserable with their LOUD music and out of control crowds. Even the tourists don't want to be anywhere near this area and without them our city would just be another struggling seaside business area. We know the tourists bring in a lot of money so let's show some respect to them also so they will return. Make us all happy and let them build a hotel or maybe a museum that will have a purpose instead of encouraging drinking and most likely driving afterwards.

Anonymous credit issue
Though many of the comments are fun to read I think there is a problem in writing anonymous comments on the online newspaper boards. I was at the city council meeting tonight for this agenda and I think individuals that like to leave negative comments about people, businesses, city council members and each other is not constructive.
If you go online you can pick up the city council clerks agenda and make your case.
I am sorry I am interested in the best for all parties but it just seems like there is a bunch of people attacking via anonymous which does not seem like it's the best solution.

true hearing loss levels
To Npt Resident:
Please do not manipulate information to suit your argument.
According the the EPA, 85 dB becomes dagerous after 8 hours of exposure. And note that the council is voting on a maximum 75 dB. Just for the record, the guidelines are below for when decibels become dangerous:
85 dB 8-hour period
85 - 90 dB 2-hour period
90 - 100 dB 1 to 2-hour period
100 - 110 between 2 and 15 minutes
110 - 120 less than 30 seconds
130 dB any exposure will result in hearing loss

Hearing Loss
Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) – this is hearing loss due to exposure to either a sudden, loud noise or exposure to loud noises for a period of time. A dangerous sound is anything that is 85 dB (sound pressure level – SPL) or higher
This means that the decibal level at the speakers and the radius around the speakers would be at this level creating hearing loss.
This is bad business, does the owner want a class action lawsuit, I think someone will pursue it if this passes.

Noise
WHAT?? You've got to be kidding. "Zooport" took years to squelch. LUDACRIS! Sound carries, people. Lower the levels if anything, we've got proof that people grow up deaf to constructive criticism already.... the Council might even reconsider it ??!!
