Rep. Peter Martin has been appointed to the House Committee on Small Business

STATE HOUSE – Rep. Peter F. Martin (D-Newport) has been appointed to the House Committee on Small Business for the 2010 legislative session.

The appointment was announced this week by Speaker of the House William J. Murphy.
The House Committee on Small Business is a new committee, created this year by the House of Representatives to handle legislation of particular concern and interest to the state’s small business community, which accounts for most employment in the state.

Representative Martin holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management from Bryant University and has more than 30 years experience in the business world. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Providence College, he attended the Boston College School of Social Work and spent three years in the field of social work. Following that, he worked for Honeywell, Raytheon and a number of small computer consulting businesses. He is currently assisting a friend in setting up a small construction business on Aquidneck Island.

In accepting the appointment to the Committee on Small Business, he said he realizes that “the best social program that we can give a person is a job.”

Representative Martin, who is serving his first term in the House, is also a member of the House Committee on Judiciary, the House Committee on Municipal Government, the House Committee on Separation of Powers and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
