NEWPORT, R.I. – Whether you’re looking for a place to watch the big game, or a night out on the town to do some good, there’s plenty of ways to fill your calendar this weekend.

Here now, our Best Bets:

Everyone’s Newportant

Friday evening, Newport Art Museum hosts their official winter exhibitions opening, which includes the 2010 Newport Annual Members’ Juried Exhibition, William Heydt’s “Newportant People,” and Brenda Lavasseur’s “Windows to our Soul.” Reception begins at 5 p.m., members free; non-members $10. Visit www.newportartmuseum.org for information.

Just Dance

All Hail Fitzgerald

See Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan in a whole new light after the dramatic reading of The Great Gatsby, performed by actors from Warren’s 2nd Story Theater on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rosecliff. The event is free but registration required. Visit www.newportmansions.org or call (401) 847-1000 ext. 154.

Super Sunday

Just because local fans may not be emotionally invested doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate the NFL’s biggest game day. A few Superbowl parties around town:

  • Benjamin’s: $15 buys you free barbecue and a raffle ticket for prizes. Proceeds benefit the Linda and Joe Caruso Family Fund. Buy tickets at Benjamin’s in advance, call (401) 330-0710 pr visit www.joecarusofamilyfund.com
  • Sambar: Superbowl Party with $3 Heineken drafts, $5 Grey Goose cocktails, $6.95 all-you-can-eat wings, $5 pizzas and giveaways.
  • One-Eighty: $15 all you can eat buffet, pre-game and halftime trivia, raffle and trivia prizes, $3 drafts

Have A Heart

The Potter League for Animals hosts their annual cocktail party and fundraiser Monday evening at the Hotel Viking with proceeds benefiting the shelter. Enjoy fine wines and hors d’oeuvres, delightful desserts and probably the largest silent auction on Aquidneck Island. Ticket prices vary, visit www.potterlague.org or call (401) 846-8276.

Glad to see that Jackie Henderson has been revived, or her work, rather. Will be watching for Dance Through the New – happy to donate a piece of artwork for any upcoming raffle/silent auction/event.
