Courtney Hunter, Community Relationship Manager for People's Credit Union, recently led a presentation about personal finance, banking and credit as part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center "Strong Woman" series.
NEWPORT, R.I. – Volunteers from People’s Credit Union recently presented a workshop for Newport County women about personal finance, banking and credit as part of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center “Strong Woman” series.
The series, which runs on the first Monday of every month through May, is designed to enlighten, celebrate, and empower women, instead of focusing on them solely as parents or caregivers. The monthly forums include dinner, inspiring presentations and lively discussions at various locations on Aquidneck Island.
Courtney Hunter, along with Vice President of Sales and Service Nancy Quick, Newport Branch Manager Marie Everett and Middletown Branch Manager Darlene Moniz, all from People’s Credit Union, volunteered their time to research and present the November’s session. This is the second year that People’s Credit Union has participated in “Strong Woman” to sponsor and provide presenters for the series.
Hunter said that participants in the recent workshop “came away with a solid foundation in personal banking and credit and the right information to set financial priorities and goals. People’s Credit Union wants to be a community educational resource for financial help, so ‘Strong Woman’ is a perfect fit for us.”
The “Strong Woman Series” is coordinated by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and funded by the Miss Swinburne Fund of The Rhode Island Foundation in partnership with People’s Credit Union, Newport Hospital, Newport Public Library & Salve Regina University. The series is the brainchild of Dr. Rosalind Vaz, Middletown resident and Martin Luther King Community Center volunteer. Dr. Vaz is Professor of Pediatrics at Brown University, and a member of the staff of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
