NEWPORT, R.I. – How to do you have a good time in German?
Well, biergartens, bratwurst and Bavarian music, all seem like a good place to start. Thankfully, all will be on tap at this year’s 17th Annual International Oktoberfest beginning this Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Newport Yachting Center.
Running through Monday, this outdoor, tented event will feature all things German.

In addition to lively American and Bavarian music, the HSV Bavaria Dancers and Rhode Island’s own S.G.T.V. Alpenblumen Bavarian Folk Dancers will be dancing and entertaining on the Kunstlerleban (Life of an Artist) and Biergarten (Beer Garden) stages. At the same time, local and international brewers will be serving up over 20 brews, including Spaten, Hoegaarden, Leffe Brown, Edison, Samuel Adams, Newport Storm, Beck’s Oktoberfest, Stella Artois, Peroni, Narragansett, Leinenkugel’s Oktoberfest, Amstel Light and many more.
“Whether you’re coming with friends to sample the Oktoberfest flavors or as a family to enjoy an authentic festival, it’s all here,” said Mike Martin, Festival Director of the International Oktoberfest. “One thing is for certain, you’re guaranteed to find a variety of beer styles and limited release seasonal brews as our assortment continues to expand at both the International Biergarten and the new Beck’s Biergarten.”
Gates open at 11 a.m. each day and the celebration will continue until 9 p.m. on Saturday, 8 p.m. on Sunday and 6 p.m. on Monday.
Admission to the Oktoberfest is $15.00 for adults on Saturday (gate and advance) and $12 for adults on Sunday and Monday ($10 in advance if ordered by Friday, October 2nd). Children under the age of 12 are free as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be ordered on-line at www.newportwaterfrontevents. by using the ClicknPrint ticketing system which offers the benefit of “at home” ticket printing to avoid ticket lines and go straight to the gate.
