Mark S. Weed, Husband of Sen. President Theresa Paiva-Weed Passes Away

NEWPORT, R.I. – Mark Stephen Weed, 50,died Saturday,  at home in Newport.

He was the husband of Rhode Island Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed (D-Newport, Jamestown, Middletown).

Born in Newport on June 4, 1959, Mark was a 1978 graduate of Rogers High School, and a 1985 graduate of Salve Regina University. He began work at Eastern Ice Company in Newport while in high school and continued his career there for the next 30 years as production manager.

In addition to his wife of 23 years, he leaves his mother Joan Heald of Newport, his father Tom Heald and his wife Pat Galuska of Newport, six siblings.

He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Fort Adams Trust, as well as past Grand Knight, District Deputy, and 4th Degree General Rosecrans Assembly and the Newport Knights of Columbus, Council 256.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home.

In honor of his love of sports, memorial donations may be made to the Newport Gulls Summer Camp Scholarships, PO Box 777, Newport, RI 02840; or donations may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
