The USCG Cutter Juniper gets a new command today

NEWPORT, R.I. – A change of command ceremony was scheduled for the Coast Guard Cutter Juniper, a 225-foot buoy tender, at the Newport Naval Station Pier two, at 10 a.m. this morning.

Lt. Cmdr. Jeffery S. Swanson, will assume responsibility as commanding officer of the Juniper from Cmdr. Richard J. Wester, in a time-honored ceremony that formally transfers authority and accountability from one individual to another.

Wester, who has commanded the Juniper since 2006, will transfer to his new position at the Newport Naval War College. Swanson is arriving from the Coast Guard financial policy program.
