NEWPORT, RI – Last weekend was, well… a blast. And the hits just keep on coming this week, as summer finally feels like it’s arrived in the City-by-the-Sea. Here’s just some of what you can look forward to this week, in our Week in Preview.

Tennis takes over town for the week beginning Monday, as 32 players vie for the coveted Van Allen Cup at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships on the lawns of the Newport Casino. Tickets and live scoring updates can be found at www.TennisFame.com.

Also on Monday, the Firehouse Theater kicks off its Music Mondays series, sponsored by the Rhode Island Songwriters Association. Enjoy these weekly concerts in the round with some of the state’s most talented musicians beginning at 8 p.m.. BYOB.

Tuesday brings Dixieland Jazz to the stage at Easton’s Beach for their weekly Family Night festivities. The performance steps off at 6 p.m. at the Easton’s Beach Rotunda. Bring the kids, sit back, and enjoy this concert at the beach.

If it’s Thursday, it’s fashion as Angela Moore hosts their annual fashion show and champagne brunch at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The show begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by a Summer Style party from noon-5 p.m. at their Bellevue Avenue location.

At 6:3o that night, the Friends of Ballard Park will be hosting a free concert by The Skinny Millionaires in the meadow at the Wickham Road refuge. Visit BallardPark.org for more details.

Renowned sailing photographer Onne Van der Wal kicks off IYRS’ annual Summer Gala Weekend on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. with a slideshow featuring some of his most recent works under the tent at the school’s Lower Thames Street campus. $25 per person.

On Friday, the Newport Music Festival celebrates its 41st season bringing world-class classical music to the Gilded Age summer cottages of Bellevue Avenue.Tickets can be found online at www.NewportMusic.org.

One of the social events of the year also takes place this week, with the annual IYRS Summer Gala on Saturday, July 11. Enjoy an evening of dancing and an exclusive silent auction on the campus at one of Newport’s most unique organizations. Two levels of tickets are available: One for $300, the other at $100 per ticket.

This weekend also boasts a full slate of sailing action headlined by the 25th Annual Coastal Living Newport Regatta hosted by Sail Newport.

The Newport Gulls play twice at home this week, on the 6th and the 8th. Games begin at 6:35 p.m. at Cardines Field. Discount parking is available at the Gateway Center.

Comedian Joel McHale headlines the Yachting Center on Sunday

And weather dependent, the Newport Kite Festival takes flight all day on Saturday and Sunday at Brenton Point State Park.

And wrapping up the week, comedian Joel McHale returns to the Newport Yachting Center on Sunday, July 12 for the Newport Summer Comedy Series. Tickets and info can be found online at NewportComedy.com.
